At 3.9 x 3.9 x 1.4 in., the Apple TV 4K is likely too big for the back of a TV, but third parties, such as Innovelis, make wall-mounting brackets. The Apple TV can be controlled from across the room with its Siri Remote, which listens for commands. It uses the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands or a wired Ethernet LAN, has an HDMI port, and is powered by an AC cord. With hardware similar to an iPad, the Apple TV 4K has an A10X Fusion processor and either 32GB ($179) or 64GB ($199) of storage for presentations, videos, and the occasional movie or game. (Click any image in this story to enlarge it.) They may look the same, but the Apple TV 4K (left) supports super-sharp 3840 x 2160 resolution, while Apple TV HD (right) tops out at 1920 x 1080 pixels. Unfortunately, you have to stay within the Apple ecosystem to use it, so forget about Androids, Chromebooks, and Windows devices. Apple TV 4K / Apple TV HDīased on Apple’s AirPlay 2 technology, Apple TV 4K wirelessly mirrors material on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad in super-sharp 3840 x 2160 resolution. After all, with a multitude of choices, there’s never been a better time to present wirelessly. Otherwise, choose the one that best suits your needs based on what people use at your office. If you’re really serious about accommodating all types of laptops and mobile devices, you should consider getting a device with broader support. That said, a few newer devices do mirror a broader range of systems. Chromecast can directly mirror Android screens but relies on Chromecast apps rather than true mirroring for other device types.Miracast devices, like Microsoft’s 4K Wireless Display Adapter, work with Windows systems as well as Android tablets and phones, but not Apple products or Chromebooks. The Apple TV 4K connects with MacBooks, iPads, and iPhones, but not Windows, Chrome OS, or Android products. The bad news: Most of these devices do not fit all business situations. To many this will seem like overkill, but it’s perfect for a company for going over the architectural renderings of a new factory, previewing a UHD commercial, or zooming in on a high-resolution image. (See some typical setup instructions.)Īll of the mirroring devices in this roundup support HD resolution of at least 1920 x 1080 pixels, the standard for business graphics, and some of the newer listed here can handle 4K resolution of up to 3820 x 2160 pixels, showing four times as much detail. Then, all you need do is walk in, tap the device or a few keys, and you’re on the big screen. Some use an HDMI cable for connecting to the display or projector, while others resemble a large thumb drive that plugs directly into the screen’s HDMI port.Įven the largest can travel with you or be permanently (and unobtrusively) installed to a display in a conference room, or even a TV in the den for the work-at-home crowd. These 11 devices plug into a projector, large monitor, or TV to mirror the display of a laptop, tablet, or smartphone so you can make presentations from your own device - and from anywhere in the room. You can practice now while you’re working from home, then be ready to hit the ground running later on when vaccines finish rolling out, the pandemic recedes, and offices reopen. What’s that? No one at your company has been to the office in the past 10 months because of a global pandemic? The good news is that some of the same inexpensive devices that stream entertainment media over a home Wi-Fi network - Chromecast, Apple TV, Roku, and others - can also be used in the boardroom. Whether you’re leading a sales call, a training session, or that hoped-for breakthrough presentation to the higher-ups, why not wow them by wirelessly connecting your laptop, tablet, or phone to the room’s projector or large display? With the right gear, it’s easier than you might think. The change won’t just impact developers: Moderators often rely on third-party tools to help run their communities, and they’ve complained that Reddit’s pricing structure could cripple those tools, which might lead to mayhem on the platform. Moderators are not happy about these changes Reddit officials have said they intend to work with developers to make their apps more efficient but haven’t said they will ease off the sky-high prices for API access, which is needed to keep the apps running. “I hope it goes without saying that I don’t have that kind of money, or would even know how to charge it to a credit card.” “I don’t see how this pricing is anything based in reality, or remotely reasonable,” Selig said. The price point Reddit has set for calls to its servers could see Selig paying $1.7 million per month simply to maintain Apollo as it is, he complained. Selig says Apollo users implement hundreds of requests, or “calls,” through the API to Reddit’s servers on a daily basis. Definitely the best cleaner out there. The price point was first detailed in a Reddit post published last week by Christian Selig, the developer behind Apollo, which replicates many of the same features as the official Reddit smartphone app with a few unique functions that have found favor with its devoted users. I don't know but if you want a great free piece of software to clean your Mac, use Onyx. Was that a trick to scare me and make me buy the whole software to have access to the advanced cleaning features? CleanMyMac X is an all-in-one toolkit for Mac users that can help them keep their Macs speedy, organized, and free of malware and other unwanted apps. I tried the free version, I didn't buy it. For example, it has an integrated RAM monitor which allows you to see the percentage of used memory at the moment and clean it whenever you want.Īnd I observed that it tends to show you much more used percentage of RAM than the Apple's Activity Monitor does. What I mean by that is that it's doing what it pretends to do when it comes to erasing trash files on your Mac. Everything that I read was very positive and the software was even recommended by famous Apple-related podcasts in my country. This useful app removes unnecessary files from your Mac and makes it run better. I was asking myself the same question a few weeks ago and decided to look for reviews. There are better free or open-source alternatives that do everything that CMM claims to do except they do it without lying to you or trying to sell you something. Reminds me of those VPN providers you see advertised everywhere that are actually just honeypots run by the feds in the US. You shouldn't just be deleting stuff because Storage Info says 'Other'.Īlso I don't trust CleanMyMac because they lie or mislead on their web site by pulling figures out of their asses, and they advertise too much for an app of that size. This can include stuff like browser caches. Reddits official iOS app has received an update that gives users the ability. Normally the bulk of it is either local Time Machine snapshots, or the contents of ~/Library/Application Support. Use CleanMyMac X to free up space on your Mac and tune it for maximum speed. I've personally seen it miscategorize 40+gb of content at a time when it thought ~40gb of my music collection spontaneously became 'Other' one day. 'Other' doesn't mean junk, it just means that Apples (frankly terrible) method of categorizing files cannot categorize it. Step 4: Choose the file format that you would like to save your images as.Ĭlick on the "Output" tab. You don't need to modify the other settings in the "Rename" tab. But since I'm dealing with hundreds of images in this example, I have chosen to save my resized images in a subfolder called "Resize".Ĭlick the "Select Dir" button to choose a different folder to save the resized images in. When I'm dealing with just a few images, I just save the resized images in the same folder as the original and add a prefix such as "_" ('image.jpg' becomes '_image.jpg'). Therefore you need to either save the images in a different folder and/or select a prefix or suffix (postfix) to add to the file name. However, the plugin will not allow you to overwrite any files. By default, the resized images will be saved in the same folder as the original ones. Step 3: Choose where you would like to save the resized images.Ĭlick on the "Rename" tab. – Choose "Inside" from the "Fit" drop-down list To do that, I use the following settings: In this case, I want to make all my images smaller with the maximum width and height as 900 pixels. Step 2: Choose the size that you would like to resize your images to.Ĭlick on the "Resize" tab and modify the settings. The Input tab should now display a list of the images files that you have selected. Under the "Input" tab, click the "Add Files" button, which will then open another window where you can browse the folders on your computer and select the images that you would like to resize.Īfter you have selected all the images that you would like to resize, close the "Add Image Files" window. Open GIMP and run the Batch Process plugin. Step 1: Choose the images that you want to resize. It can turn/rotate, blur, adjust brightness/contrast/saturation, crop and sharpen multiple images easily, but I mainly use it for resizing images. To quickly resize multiple images, run the plugin by clicking "Batch Process…" under the "Filters" menu in GIMP.Īs you can see, the plugin can do more than just resize multiple images. You don't need to have any images open with GIMP to use the plugin. If you have have copied dbp.exe to the correct folder, "Batch Process…" should now appear under the "Filters" menu in GIMP. On my PC, which is running Windows 7, the plugins folder for GIMP is located at "C:Program Files (x86)GIMP-2.0libgimp2.0plug-ins". To install the plugin, copy (or cut) dbp.exe to the plugins folder for GIMP. ZIP file, unzip the file and it should contain a. ZIP file for version 1.1.8 of the plugin.Īfter you have downloaded the. There are a few download links to choose from. Next, download DBP from the plugin creator's website. And here's how:įirst, you need to have GIMP (a free and open source image editing program) installed on your computer. But each image file is over 2MB and would take quite a long time to upload, and with over 300 images to process, it would take a long time to open, resize and save each image… or would it?Īt work, I use GIMP with a plugin called David's Batch Processor (DBP) to quickly resize multiple images. Click on Process to start the auto cropping. It has been almost one month since I went on a camping trip to Margaret River with Igor and his dad, and I've been wanting to upload an share a few photos.Drag and drop images to the program, select them all.Notes: You can also Auto crop multiple images in wanted aspect ratio with BatchPhoto. Click on Process to crop multiple images at once.Head to Setup, choose original image format.Move and resize the cropping frame to select the cropped area and click OK to continue.Drag and drop all images into BatchPhoto, select them all.Grab a free copy of BatchPhoto Pro, install and open the app.Steps to (Auto) Crop Multiple Images at Once (Mac and Windows) It supports 170+ input formats and 50+ output formats, this means you can process any format of image with this app. Image conversion is the main feature, but tools like bulk comment, add date stamp/watermark, rotate, crop, flip, resize, touch up, apply filters all make BatchPhoto a digital necessity. Here is just the best tool to auto bulk crop multiple images, using BatchPhoto.īatchPhoto Pro is the best bulk image tool for both Mac and Windows users. This is why the 360-visibility can compensate for the non-existent foot platform. With a weight o 40bs, the tripod represents a good choice for people looking to maximize mobility but who always need good visibility. This is why a design like this can only suit a person who often changes locations as it comes with a minimal design which is perfect or easy transportation. The Muddy Nomad Tripod (MTP8100) is one of the recommended options for hunters who live by independence and mobility. Unlike padded seats, it comes with the quick-drying design which will also prove useful during transportation as it may even keep your car moist and damp free. The seat is perfect for the hot summer days and can represent a top choice for those who plan to use it in all types of weather. In terms of comfort, the tripod comes with a breathable seat with a flip-up shooting rail. Since there is no platform, you will have to sit for the whole experience which limits your choices of weapons to firearms. One of the main issues with the 12′ tripod comes with the reduced feet support. Although you might find the tripod is not truly meant for this visibility, it uses the opportunity to improve the hunting angles in all directions. In terms of visibility, the tripod offers one of the best experiences as the users feel its capacity with the 360 seat. This makes it one of the lightest alternatives on the market and a very attractive choice for people who have to walk further into the wilderness. This can be done with the tripod as it comes with a reduced weight of just 40lbs. This means that the tripod is one of the best solutions for many types of hunters and especially those who carry the required equipment with them. As a tower comes with a higher weight, the tripod represents one of the best options for those looking to improve hunting sessions by choosing an elevated position with a design which is easy to move. If you are looking for a minimalistic design which is based on a mobile experience, the tripod can be the only true options. This is why it comes with a weight of 40lbs which makes it the perfect choice if you want to move locations often and if you want to have improved independence compared to a tree stand. The tripod uses a minimalistic design which is a lighter alternative to towers or pods which come with a heavier design. The Muddy Nomad Tripod comes with a height of 12 feet which is perfect for those who plan to hunt from a higher perspective.

There should be little space between the logs since no insulation is used.Logs are stacked together horizontally, fitting tightly and forming the walls. This style was used to build the first log cabins and is the most traditional. There are several distinctive log cabin styles, from the method adopted by frontiersmen to the construction methods employed in the log cabins of today. A stone or brick fireplace warmed the cabin but also provided a gathering place for the family.Roofs were also wood, featuring a purlin or rafter structure.Rather than glass, animal skin or greased paper often covered the window opening. The homes usually had one window for fresh air and natural light.Eventually, after their farm was up and running, families added space or built larger homes. These frontier-era homes typically provided one room measuring about 10feet by 16feet or so.Cabins started with a stone foundation to protect the wood from damp soil.Early log houses were constructed of oak, maple, pine, cypress and other wood species, depending on preference and availability.Log cabins were built with wooden logs.Owners could replace any damaged parts when they reconstructed the cabin.Ĭharacteristics of the Original Log Cabin But these homes were movable, too, and could be disassembled and rebuilt in a different location. Due to the harshness of frontier life, sunlight and drainage were two requirements when selecting the lot where the house would live. The building site has always played a significant role in the log cabin. If a man was building the cabin solo, the process could take several weeks. These inexpensive houses could usually be assembled in a few days if several men were working together. Credit: David Mark/PixabayĪffordability and a straightforward construction method are major benefits of the log cabin. On occasion, log cabins were nailed together as a shortcut, but those homes weren’t structurally sound.Ī log cabin is a simple version of a log home that's known for being easy to construct as well as affordable. Unlike in traditional construction, nails were typically not used in log cabins, but rather, dowel joints reinforced stability. Tight notches minimized any gaps and didn’t require chinking or filling the spaces with mud, straw, sticks, etc. The original log cabin was constructed using stacked horizontal logs and interlocking the ends with notches. Even with their Scandinavian roots, these sturdy residential dwellings would go on to become especially symbolic in the U.S., as log cabins were quintessential to the American frontier. They built the first log cabins in the Delaware and Brandywine River Valleys on the East Coast. In the U.S., the log cabin emerged in the 17th century when Finnish and Swedish settlers arrived. Though no exact date or location has been proven, its roots can likely be traced to Northern and Eastern Europe during the Bronze Age, around 3500 B.C. With origins in the ancient world, this rustic house style has been around for thousands of years. A log cabin is a smaller, simpler version of a log home. Given this unique situation, the aim of this study was to capture the immediate impact and provide insights into people’s experiences of WFH during the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify the main (groups of) advantages and disadvantages people experienced when WFH during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a particular focus on knowledge workers working across distances and cultures within the domain of intra-organisational distance work. Determining the main factors that constitute the experiences people have when WFH can provide insights into how to organise and manage distance work in the future. Insight into how people experience WFH is now even more important than before. Given the potential for cost efficiencies in comparison to the traditional office and the aim of providing people with more flexibility in choosing where to work, organisations have announced their aim to reduce their office space and introduce blended home–office working conditions post-COVID-19. Given this new situation, societies, organisations and workplaces across the world are now seeking “the new normal” (including the “future of work” and the “role of the office”) in which WFH is the norm and people can continue teleworking in pure or hybrid forms post-COVID-19. To lower the risk of spreading the virus, national governments across the world required people to WFH unless they were key workers. The radical increase in the number of people working from home (WFH) during 2020 has been one of the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As the data were collected amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we recommend further studies to validate the six factors and investigate their importance for well-being and performance in knowledge work. The factors help organisations understand where action is most needed to safeguard both performance and well-being. Comparing gender, number of children at home, age and managers versus employees in relation to these factors provided insights into the differential impact of WFH on people’s lives. The main disadvantages were (iv) home office constraints, (v) work uncertainties and (vi) inadequate tools. Three factors represent the main advantages of WFH: (i) work–life balance, (ii) improved work efficiency and (iii) greater work control. The results indicated that most people had a more positive rather than negative experience of WFH during lockdown. A factor analysis showed the overall distribution of people’s experiences and how the advantages and disadvantages of WFH during the early weeks of the pandemic can be grouped into six key factors. Data from 29 European countries on the experiences of knowledge workers ( N = 5748) WFH during the early stages of lockdown (11 March to ) were collected. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate people’s experiences of WFH during the pandemic and to identify the main factors of advantages and disadvantages of WFH. The number of people working from home (WFH) increased radically during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. |
